Someone apparently hit/scuffed the Highlander and didn’t tell us. Nice.
Just under 5,100 miles. I had the tires rotated and the oil changed today. Toyota doesn’t recommend an oil change until 10,000 miles. However, we do a LOT of short-distance and stop-and-go driving. So, I went ahead and had the oil change done.

I’ll never get used to 10,000 mile oil change intervals. I usually do somewhere from 6-7000 as I also do a lot of short trips.
I’ll also never get used to people indiscriminately dinging doors. Hope it buffs right out for you.
As a confession, I added spacers to the wheels on my car. Then I drove it and it seemed to be making a noise from one of the wheels. I checked the tires the next morning at home and saw that there was a worn rock stuck in the tread which was obviously the source of the noise. Then I thought the tire looked low so I checked it. 28 psi cold. The tires are supposed to be at 38 cold. They were all 10 psi low and now the car drives, sounds, feels and handles much better...

It won’t be the last scuff, dent or ding this vehicle gets. Consider it part of the break-in.
This is another reason why I prefer driving beaters... they are already pre-scuffed. So an additional one is usually no big deal.

Toyota still tells me the oil change is necessary on the Tacoma every 10k miles, and I still tell them screw that, every 5k miles.

Thankfully that looks like it’ll buff out, still sucks that people are so careless. I would bet they didn’t even know they hit it.

What’s funny is that nearly everyone in the Highlander owners club (yes, an actual group on Facebook) is telling me how stupid I am for getting the oil changed before 10k.

People are funny. Nothing like dropping 30-50k on a car and patting yourself on the back for being thrifty with service intervals.

Right! Especially with our repeated short distance driving and such. I’m not chancing it. Sure, Toyota would have to cover us if the engine grenaded and we have/had proof of getting it serviced per their recommendation. But...I’m sure they’d put up a fight. And who wants to go through that?
The oil change was fifty bucks. I was fine with it for the peace of mind!
